Frequently Asked Questions

How many tablets do I give, and when? Give twice daily, split between morning and evening. Cats under 2.5kg: ¼ tablet | Cats 2.5–5kg: ½ tablet | Dogs under 5kg: ½ tablet | Dogs 5–10kg: 1 tablet | Dogs 10–20kg: 2 tablets. For dogs over 20kg, use VetIQ Serene Calming Plus. For puppies and kittens over 8 weeks to 6 months, use half the recommended amount. Tablets start working in 6–8 hours — for maximum effect and for planned events like fireworks or travel, give 24–36 hours in advance.

Can I crush the tablets? Yes — they can be given whole or crushed over food.

Are they safe long-term? Yes — VetIQ Serene Calming Tablets are safe for prolonged use and are non-addictive. You can stop giving them at any time. During particularly stressful events such as fireworks, it is also possible to double the dose for a couple of days. They are equally safe for puppies with separation anxiety.

Are Serene Calming tablets safe for pregnant or lactating cats or dogs? Serene Calming is safe for pregnant or lactating cats or dogs but may taint the milk when the mother is feeding. Keep an eye on kittens or puppies to make sure they are feeding okay.

Do Serene Calming tablets contain grain or animal-based protein? No — there are no animal-based proteins or grain-based ingredients present in the Serene products.

Are Serene Calming tablets suitable for diabetic pets? Yes — neither the Serene Calming tablets nor the drops contain free sugar ingredients like glucose syrup or sucrose, so they should be suitable for diabetic pets.

What is the difference between VetIQ Serene Calming and VetIQ Serene Calming Plus? VetIQ Serene Calming Plus is designed for larger dogs up to 60kg, whereas VetIQ Serene Calming (30 and 120 tablet packs) is designed for smaller dogs and cats up to 20kg.

My cat weighs more than 5kg — what dose should I give? For cats over 5kg, follow the dog dosage guide by weight. For example, a cat weighing 6–8kg should receive 1 tablet twice daily. For best results, give the tablets 24–36 hours before a stressful event such as a vet visit.

What is the flavouring in VetIQ Serene Calming Tablets? The flavouring premixture contains vegetable protein, essential oils of parsley, celery, garlic and fenugreek, and rapeseed oil, with silica and sodium chloride as carriers. It makes up less than 0.5% of the product.

My dog has been scratching and itching since starting Serene Calming — what should I do? The tablets are formulated in a calcium carbonate base and do not contain wheat, milk or yeast. However, an allergic reaction can develop to any ingredient at any time. Try varying the time you give the tablet to confirm whether it is the cause, and consult your vet if the reaction continues.

My dog accidentally ate too many tablets — is this dangerous? Serene Calming has a wide safety margin. If excess is consumed, a calm and relaxed state may be noted as L-Tryptophan supports serotonin production, but this will subside gradually and no treatment is generally required. Offer plenty of fresh water and monitor your dog for 24–48 hours. If you are concerned, contact your vet.

Need a larger pack or higher strength? Also available as VetIQ Serene-Um Calming Tablets 120 Pack for ongoing use, or VetIQ Serene Calming Plus Tablets 60 Pack for dogs over 20kg.
