Arden Grange VetCare Renal Adult Dog Wet Food 395g

Arden Grange VetCare Renal is a vet-approved complete wet dog food formulated to support adult dogs with chronic renal insufficiency and to help regulate oxalate stone formation. Made with 63% hydrolysed chicken, sweet potato, and pumpkin in a grain-free recipe, it delivers carefully controlled nutrition that reduces the burden on compromised kidneys while remaining highly palatable and digestible.

With reduced phosphorus (0.11%) and reduced sodium (0.23%), this diet directly addresses the two key dietary priorities in renal disease management. The hydrolysed protein source minimises the risk of allergic reactions and reduces the protein load on the kidneys, while essential fatty acids from sunflower, rapeseed, and linseed oils support overall health. Always use under veterinary guidance. Browse the full Arden Grange dog food range or explore our complete range of adult wet dog food at Feedem.

Frequently Asked Questions

What conditions is this food designed for?

Arden Grange VetCare Renal is designed to support two specific conditions: chronic renal insufficiency (kidney failure) and the regulation of oxalate stone formation. It is a complete dietary feed intended to complement — not replace — veterinary treatment. Always consult your vet before starting or extending use of this diet.

How long should my dog be fed this diet?

For renal function support in chronic renal failure, the recommended feeding period is 6 months initially, with continuation as advised by your vet. For transient renal insufficiency, 2–4 weeks is recommended. For reducing oxalate stone formation, up to 6 months. Your vet will advise on the appropriate duration based on your dog's individual condition and progress.

Why is hydrolysed chicken used instead of regular chicken?

Hydrolysed chicken has been broken down into very small protein fragments through a process called hydrolysis. This serves two purposes in a renal diet: it reduces the overall protein load on the kidneys (which struggle to process waste products from protein metabolism), and it minimises the risk of allergic reactions in dogs with food sensitivities. It remains highly palatable despite the processing.

Why is low phosphorus important for dogs with kidney disease?

Healthy kidneys filter excess phosphorus from the blood. When kidneys are damaged, phosphorus builds up in the bloodstream, which accelerates kidney deterioration. Feeding a diet with reduced phosphorus (0.11% in this recipe) directly reduces this burden and is one of the most evidence-based dietary interventions for slowing the progression of chronic kidney disease in dogs.

Is this food grain free?

Yes — the recipe is completely grain free, with no cereals included. The carbohydrate sources are sweet potato and pumpkin, both of which are highly digestible and gentle on a compromised system. This also makes the food suitable for dogs with grain sensitivities alongside their renal condition.

What is potassium citrate and why is it included?

Potassium citrate is a urine-alkalising mineral included at 0.1% in this recipe. It raises the pH of urine, which helps prevent the formation of calcium oxalate crystals — a common type of urinary stone in dogs. For dogs prone to oxalate stones, this is a clinically important inclusion that works alongside the dietary management of their renal condition.

Is this food suitable for puppies?

No — this diet is not suitable for puppies, pregnant bitches, lactating bitches, or dogs with liver insufficiency, impaired bile secretion, pancreatitis, or hyperlipidaemia. It is formulated specifically for adult dogs under veterinary supervision. If your dog has a renal condition alongside other health issues, speak to your vet about the most appropriate dietary approach.
