Frequently Asked Questions

How many tablets do I give, and when? Give twice daily, split between morning and evening. Dogs under 20kg: 1 tablet twice daily | Dogs 20–40kg: 2 tablets twice daily | Dogs 40–60kg: 3 tablets twice daily. For maximum effect, give 24–36 hours before a planned stressful event such as fireworks or travel. Always ensure fresh drinking water is available.

Can I give the full daily dose in one go in the morning? It is safe to give the full dose at once, but dogs have a faster digestive system than humans — by evening the tablets will no longer be in their system. Splitting the dose morning and evening ensures your dog maintains the calming benefit throughout the day and night.

Can Serene Calming Plus be taken alongside other supplements? Serene Calming Plus is generally well tolerated with other active ingredients. Check the ingredients of both products to ensure they do not contain the same active agents to avoid doubling up on any ingredient.

I have a small dog — can I use Serene Calming Plus by halving the tablet? While halving the tablet is safe, the active ingredient levels may not be optimal for smaller dogs. VetIQ recommend using VetIQ Serene Calming Tablets (30 or 120 pack), which are specifically formulated for dogs and cats up to 20kg.

What is the difference between VetIQ Serene Calming and VetIQ Serene Calming Plus? VetIQ Serene Calming Plus is designed for larger dogs up to 60kg. VetIQ Serene Calming (30 and 120 tablet packs) is designed for smaller dogs and cats up to 20kg.

Are they safe long-term? Yes — VetIQ Serene Calming Plus Tablets are safe for prolonged use and are non-addictive. You can stop giving them at any time. During particularly stressful events such as fireworks, it is also possible to double the dose for a couple of days.

Can I crush the tablets? Yes — they can be given whole or crushed over food.

Are Serene Calming Plus tablets safe for pregnant or lactating dogs? Serene Calming is safe for pregnant or lactating dogs but may taint the milk when the mother is feeding. Keep an eye on puppies to make sure they are feeding okay.

Do Serene Calming Plus tablets contain grain or animal-based protein? No — there are no animal-based proteins or grain-based ingredients present in the Serene products.

Are Serene Calming Plus tablets suitable for diabetic dogs? Yes — the tablets do not contain free sugar ingredients like glucose syrup or sucrose, so they should be suitable for diabetic dogs.

What is the flavouring in VetIQ Serene Calming Plus Tablets? The flavouring premixture contains vegetable protein, essential oils of parsley, celery, garlic and fenugreek, and rapeseed oil, with silica and sodium chloride as carriers. It makes up less than 0.5% of the product.

My dog has been scratching and itching since starting Serene Calming Plus — what should I do? The tablets are formulated in a calcium carbonate base and do not contain wheat, milk or yeast. However, an allergic reaction can develop to any ingredient at any time. Try varying the time you give the tablet to confirm whether it is the cause, and consult your vet if the reaction continues.

My dog accidentally ate too many tablets — is this dangerous? Serene Calming Plus has a wide safety margin. If excess is consumed, a calm and relaxed state may be noted as L-Tryptophan supports serotonin production, but this will subside gradually and no treatment is generally required. Offer plenty of fresh water and monitor your dog for 24–48 hours. If you are concerned, contact your vet.

For smaller dogs or cats? See VetIQ Serene Calming Tablets 30 Pack or the 120 Pack for dogs and cats up to 20kg.
